Police shoot suspected gang member in the hand in South L.A.

112711_1850_Policeshoot1A police officer shot a suspected gang member in the hand Sunday after responding to a reported drive-by shooting in South L.A., police said.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at 3:45 a.m. near East 93rd Street and Clovis Avenue. They found four suspects in a vehicle shooting at a residence, said Lt. Jon Tippet of the Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast station.

Officers exchanged fire with the suspects, then pursued them, Tippet said. Eventually, police captured the suspects and recovered a weapon. The suspect who was shot was treated at a hospital and released to police custody, Tippet said.
