This post has been corrected. See the note at bottom for details.

A Texas man was being treated Wednesday for injuries he suffered after falling through a tarp covering an air conditioning unit at a Century City hotel.

Adam Rendon, 44, of Helotes, Texas, will be booked for felony vandalism after his release from the hospital, said Sgt. Gary Levy of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Rendon, who was not a guest at the hotel, had allegedly been vandalizing property inside the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel when a private security guard began chasing him.

During the chase, he ran to the back of the hotel, where the air conditioning unit, covered with a tarp, is located, said Erica Garcia-Lavyne, hotel spokeswoman. He fell through the tarp and down to the floor below, a distance of some 18 feet. No guests were involved or injured in the incident.

However, Levy said, “alcohol was definitely a factor."

[For the record, Nov. 8, 10:09 a.m.: An earlier version of this post stated that Rendon fell through an awning. Hotel officials said Rendon fell through a tarp at the back of the hotel that covers an air conditioning unit.]
