Former boyfriend arrested in disappearance of Carlsbad woman

November 26, 2011 |  6:59 pm

The  43-year-old former boyfriend of a Carlsbad woman who disappeared Thursday has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and murder, police said Saturday.

Michael David Robles of Fallbrook was being held without bail after a body that closely matches the description of 35-year-old Kathy Cary Scharbarth was found by Carlsbad police late Friday in a remote area of San Diego County.

The San Diego County coroner’s office confirmed Saturday that the remains were those of Scharbarth.

"This is not the outcome we had hoped for," said Carlsbad Police Chief Gary Morrrison said.

Because the investigation is continuing, authorities declined to release additional information about Scharbarth’s disappearance or Robles’ arrest.
