Stabbing, beating in Westlake leave two men in critical condition

September 19, 2011 |  7:21 am

Two men were in critical condition after one was stabbed and the other beaten with a stick in Westlake early Monday morning.

Police believe the incidents are related, but have not yet identified a suspect, LAPD Sgt. Michael Mabie said.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 400 block of Union Drive at 2:45 a.m. A short time later, a man was beaten with a stick about a block away on West 3rd Street and Union Drive, police said. Both men were transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition.

The motives for the attacks were unclear. Mabie said investigators were still at the scene and police were trying to create a sketch of a suspect.
