Oscar D. Perez Perez, 68, is charged with four felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 and sentencing enhancement allegations for multiple victims. Perez, who faces a maximum sentence of 60 years to life in state prison if convicted, made a brief court appearance Tuesday, where bail was set at $1 million. He is set to be arraigned Monday.

Perez is accused of representing himself as a Catholic and Apostolic pastor and bishop at Iglesia Antigua, a church that rented space at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Laguna Hills.

The bishop met the two boys at the church, authorities say. Perez is accused of having the first boy sleep over at his apartment July 1. During the visit, Perez  is accused of kissing the victim on the mouth and reaching into the boy's pants and fondling his private parts. His mother later reported the alleged sexual assault to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

During a subsequent investigation, detectives learned of a second alleged victim. Between Jan. 1, 2008, and Tuesday, Perez is accused of rubbing that boy's private parts and buttocks. During a sleepover at Perez’s apartment, the boy allegedly awoke to find he was being sodomized by the bishop, prosecutors allege.
