New heat wave heightens fire danger in L.A. County
Hot weather has returned to Southern California this week, with forecasters predicting 100-degree temperatures in inland valley areas.
The National Weather Service issued a warning for hot conditions and heightened fire danger. Several fires have broken out in the region in the last few days, including one in Mandeville Canyon and another near Aqua Dolce on Monday.
Officials said thunderstorms are possible in some mountain areas, producing lightning that could cause more fires. Another concern for firefighters: winds in passes and canyons that could top 25 mph.
Temperatures in inland valleys could top 107, with coastal locations expected to remain in the 80s.
The heat wave is expected to peak Wednesday, with a cooling trend expected by Friday.
