September 29, 2011 |  7:41 am

A woman and child were rescued by a SWAT team Wednesday night in Monterey Park after the woman's husband allegedly stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

The woman called police about 9:30 p.m. to report  her husband had stabbed her after an argument and she had locked herself in the bathroom with her young son, said Sgt. John Martindale of the Monterey Park Police Department.

She suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including a wound to her left leg and bruising on her forehead.

Officers arrived on the scene and the woman was able to hand the child to them through the bathroom window, but she could not fit through the window herself.

The SWAT team stormed the home, where the husband had barricaded himself in a bedroom, and rescued the woman.

They arrested the husband, Xiong Chao, 49, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was in jail Thursday in lieu of $30,000 bail.
