One killed, three hurt when car slams into tow truck near LAX

August 5, 2011 |  8:00 am

At least one person died and three other people were injured late Thursday when a car slammed into the back of a tow truck parked on the shoulder of the 105 Freeway near Los Angeles International Airport.

The crash occurred about 11:55 p.m. on the freeway’s right shoulder, authorities said. One of the passengers in a Toyota Camry was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics.

Three people were taken to a hospital and all were listed in fair condition, authorities said.

The tow truck had stopped to assist another motorist with a flat tire when the accident occurred, authorities said. No one in the tow truck or those in the second car suffered any injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
