13-year-old boy dies after fall from second-floor window

August 11, 2011 | 10:20 am

Palmdale A 13-year-old boy has died from injuries he suffered after falling through a second-story bedroom window while playing with his sister in their Palmdale home, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 37300 block of Populus Avenue, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Dan McPherson. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Deputies told local TV stations that they believed the boy was playing with his sister when he crashed through the window. The fall appeared to be accidental, authorities said.

One KCBS report quoted the boy's father, Efram Adkins, as saying that his son was "just having fun with his sister."

"They were playing, and I guess she was falling off a bed or something like that and she grabbed him to brace herself and her momentum took him toward the window," Adkins told the station. "From what [investigators] are telling me, it was a freak accident."

The incident is still under investigation.
