Soldier, woman killed in Buena Park motorcycle accident

July 21, 2011 |  9:17 am

Two people are dead, including a newly reenlisted Army Ranger about to deploy abroad, after a Thursday morning motorcycle accident in Buena Park.

Johnny Carrillo, 22, and his passenger, a 31-year-old woman, died after their motorcycle struck a median, skidded out of control and struck a pole, said Cpl. Andy Luong of the Buena Park Police Department.

Carrillo is thought to be from Whittier or Lakewood. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was a resident of Norwalk.

Apparently, no other vehicle was involved in the accident, which occurred shortly before 2 a.m.

“Right now the investigation is being looked at as alcohol- and speed-related,” Luong said.

Carrillo’s name was made available because his parents arrived while the investigation was in progress, Luong said.

Carrillo was pronounced dead at the scene on Malvern Avenue at Monticello Avenue. The woman died while being treated at UC Irvine Medical Center, Luong said.

Carrillo's parents told investigators their son was on a two-week leave after having returned from Afghanistan. He was scheduled to fly to Kentucky on Thursday to prepare for deployment to South Korea.
