A man whom Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement were surveilling outside a business Thursday night ended up being wounded during a confrontation with the officers.

The deputies were part of a commercial-burglary task force, watching a location on the 1000 block of West Washington Boulevard in the Pico-Union area about 6 p.m., according to a sheriff’s report.

The man arrived and apparently fought with law enforcement. During the struggle, a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The report did not make clear how or why the struggle took place, nor did it identify the man who was wounded.

The man was taken to a local hospital. A deputy was injured during the fight, though he was not shot. He was also treated at a local hospital, according to the report.

[Updated, 10:52 p.m.: The Sheriff's Department reports that the incident took place around 1:30 p.m., not 6 p.m. The report also says that the man who was wounded grabbed at an officer's gun during the confrontation.]
