A 34-year-old man died after he was struck early Sunday morning in San Pedro by a car whose driver fled, authorities said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was crossing the street near Pacific Avenue and 14th Street shortly after 2 a.m. when he was hit by a Ford F-150 pickup, said Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Rosario Herrera.

The pickup was described as white, with a wide gold or silver stripe running along its body and  tinted windows. Herrera said it may have damage to its front.

Herrera said the victim was taken to a hospital where he later died.
