July 7, 2011 |  6:23 pm

Pyramid Lake boating arrest. A Quartz Hill man was arrested for boating under the influence after his vessel smashed into rocks and capsized in Pyramid Lake.

The impact hurled the man and another person into the water and drowned a dog that was tied to the boat, authorities said Thursday afternoon.

Deputies witnessed the ski boat smash into the rocks near the shoreline Wednesday afternoon and responded to find two men trying to tread water, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The men were pulled to shore with life rings and rope. A dog was also rescued. The body of the second dog was found underneath the capsized vessel, authorities said.

The boat operator, Juan Rodriguez, 44, allegedly showed signs of being intoxicated. He was given a sobriety test and arrested, the department said.
