Power outage shuts down 911 in Palm Springs

June 27, 2011 | 10:30 am

A power outage has shut down the 911 system for Palm Springs but emergency calls are still being answered, a police spokesman said.

Callers to 911 are routed to the emergency call system for nearby Cathedral City, which then routes the calls back to the Palm Springs Police Department, said Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff.

The system went down about 1 a.m., he said. Verizon is working to get it back up as soon as possible, Kovaleff said.
