Woman allegedly holds boyfriend hostage, tortures him over suspected infidelity

This post has been corrected.  See the note at the bottom for details.

A Central California woman was behind bars Tuesday after allegedly holding her boyfriend hostage and torturing him because she believed he was cheating on her.

Deputies arrested Sabrina Renee Robinson, 33, on the morning of June 16 just outside Fresno as she hid in a bedroom inside a home  that belongs to her boyfriend, whose name is being withheld by the Madera County Sheriff’s Department.

Moments before entering the home, deputies had found the boyfriend naked, beaten and hiding in bushes on the property.

Deputies have since pieced together what appears to be “a case of a woman scorned,” said Erica Stuart, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman. “Hell hath no fury.”

Robinson and her boyfriend, a 41-year-old unemployed man, drove to his home on the evening of June 15, shortly after she came to believe he had been seeing another woman behind her back, according to Stuart.

Initially, Stuart said, Robinson told her boyfriend she wanted to engage in “something kinky.” But after placing handcuffs on the victim, Robinson allegedly turned violent.

Investigators say Robinson burned the man's chest with candle wax, punched his head and body, hit him with the barrel of a shotgun and threatened him with a knife.

While brandishing the knife, Robinson told him “this is the same type of knife I skin deer with,” according to Stuart.

Robinson then threatened to gut him and dump his body on a nearby property. At some point during the evening, Robinson called the woman she believed to be the other girlfriend, who later told deputies that the victim’s screams could be heard in the background during the call.

The boyfriend escaped after being left alone for a short while, Stuart said, and deputies eventually tracked down where Robinson was calling from. By the time deputies arrived, around 4 a.m. June 16, he had been outside for almost two hours.

Asked why he hadn’t fled farther, he told deputies he’d been so dazed by the attack that he wasn’t thinking clearly.

Robinson, an unemployed Fresno resident, is being held without bail at the Madera County Jail. She has been booked on suspicion of making terrorist threats, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and corporeal injury.

She also has an outstanding warrant issued out of San Luis Obispo County for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

[For the record, 4:12 p.m.: A previous version of this post said Robinson was accused of kidnapping her boyfriend. She has not been charged with kidnapping, but is accused of holding him against his will.]
