1 dead, 1 hurt in Orange County shooting; woman questioned

May 8, 2011 | 10:42 pm

A woman allegedly shot and killed an elderly man and wounded a teenage boy during what appears to have been a domestic dispute Sunday afternoon at a home in Orange County, authorities said.

The names of the three and their relationship to one another were being withheld as of late Sunday, pending notification of next of kin, said Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

He said that deputies responding to a disturbance call in unincorporated North Tustin found the man, boy and woman inside a home on the 18400 block of Manning Drive.

The man, 73, had been shot and was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana , where he was pronounced dead. The boy, 16, also hit by gunfire, was taken to the same hospital and was in stable condition Sunday night, Amormino said.

Also taken to the hospital was the woman, described as being in her 50s by Amormino, who did not have an exact age. She suffered a minor injury that “does not appear to be the result of an altercation,” Amormino said. “It may have been a powder wound from when the gun went off.”

Amormino said the woman was being held for questioning but had not been formally charged.  He added that deputies recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting from a neighbor’s front lawn.
