Body found in Chantry Flats campground

May 2, 2011 | 12:32 pm

Search teams found the body of a man Monday in the Angeles National Forest, close to the Chantry Flats campground where another man was shot to death last week, authorities said.

No identification was found on the body and it had not been identified, said Sgt. Michael Thomas of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

It was too early to say whether the remains are that of 53-year-old Kevin Pochter, a suspect in the shooting death last week of Dean Albert, 55.

Authorities received a call of a wounded man at Chantry Flats around 5:30 p.m. Thursday and found Albert lying on the side of Big Santa Anita Canyon Road with gunshot injuries. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Investigators began searching for Pochter, an experienced hiker, in the surrounding wilderness areas. Over the weekend, Sheriff's Department special teams searched more than 62 square miles of rugged terrain. They also were looking for Albert's missing 1993 silver BMW.

An autopsy on the body found Monday was pending.
