5 Freeway reopens after fuel spill forces seven-hour closure near Sun Valley

May 26, 2011 |  7:12 am

Fuelspill
All lanes of the 5 Freeway near Sun Valley reopened Thursday morning after being closed in both directions for nearly seven hours after a tanker truck crashed and began spilling fuel.

The California Highway Patrol shut down the freeway between Sunland Boulevard and Hollywood Way just before 11 p.m. Wednesday after hundreds of gallons of fuel leaked from the tanker truck.

It had been involved in a collision near Glenoaks Boulevard.

The freeway reopened about 5:40 a.m. after the fuel was cleaned up and the truck was removed from the roadway, said CHP officer Ed Jacobs.
