A car sits overturned after plunging off a West L.A. parking structure. Los Angeles police have identified a 75-year-old woman who was killed when her Volkswagen plunged off a parking structure in West L.A. and fell four stories before landing on its roof on the sidewalk.

Maris Cherry, of Los Angeles, was pronounced dead at the scene after she drove a 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan through a vehicle barrier and off of a parking facility in the 11000 block of West Nebraska Avenue that belonged to the Sports Club/LA.

The LAPD said in a statement that after a preliminary investigation, the reason for Cherry's death remains unclear.

The vehicle struck a 4-foot concrete slab that moved enough to create an opening for the vehicle to roll through. It also hit a power pole.
