During a patrol Tuesday night through the 800 block of 76th Place in Florence, deputies saw three men “acting suspiciously,” authorities said. When the deputies attempted to contact the men, the suspects ran away and a foot chase began.

As the deputies closed in, two of the three suspects pulled handguns from their waistbands, authorities said. Two of the suspects were struck by deputy gunfire.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital, where one is in critical condition, and the other in stable condition.

The third man was detained and questioned, and has since been released. Two handguns were recovered at the scene, authorities said.

No deputies were injured. As is routine with deputy shootings, several investigations were underway.
