Motorist dies after driving over Palos Verdes Peninsula cliff

March 16, 2011 | 12:59 pm

A motorist was killed Wednesday in Palos Verdes Estates after driving over a coastal cliff and being ejected from the car, a Los Angeles County County fire official said.

Rescue workers had to rappel down the cliff to reach the victim after the 10 a.m. accident near Palos Verdes Drive West and Paseo Del Mar, said Inspector Matt Levesque of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The car plunged to the shore. The driver was found about 250 feet down the cliff.

Levesque said the person -- he did not know the driver’s gender -- was dead by the time the body was found, having succumbed to traumatic injuries.
