Lomita toddler killed, mother's boyfriend arrested on parole violation charge [Updated]

Lomita_boyfriend The boyfriend of the mother of a toddler killed in Lomita has been arrested on a parole violation as homicide detectives investigate the 2-year-old's death, officials said Friday.

Sheriff's homicide detectives took Daniel Vega into custody about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

Vega, a parolee at large, was being held without bail.

The boy was discovered Thursday afternoon inside a Lomita apartment in the 26000 block of South Western Avenue.

Homicide detectives were called to the Harbor Hills housing development because of potential signs of abuse.

Lomita_toddler [Updated at 2:21 p.m.: Two other children living in the home, a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old, were taken into protective custody by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services. Vega was living in the home at the time of the 2-year-old's death, sheriff's officials said in a statement.]
