Power outage shuts down Venice High, forces basketball game to be canceled

February 9, 2011 |  6:21 pm

A power outage at Venice High School forced officials to shut down the campus Wednesday afternoon and cancel a basketball game.

The electricity went out around 5 p.m. after a cross-arm on a nearby power line broke, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said.

Crews were at the scene and expected to fix the problem within several hours, the DWP said. The cause was under investigation but appeared to be wind-related.

The Venice High boys basketball team was scheduled to play University High School. The game will not be rescheduled, said University Coach Steve Ackerman.
