Alvarado Street shut down after deputies get in scuffle near MacArthur Park subway station

Alvarado Street next to MacArthur Park was shut down Tuesday evening after Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were involved in a fight with a vendor, authorities said.

The incident occurred at the Red Line station across from the park around 5:15 p.m after two deputies checking for illegal vendors became involved in the altercation, the Sheriff's Department said.

Los Angeles Police Department units responded to back up the deputies and a police helicopter circled overhead as Alvarado was shut down between 7th Street and Wilshire Avenue.

No other details were available.
