A parolee who allegedly held up a See’s Candies store in Manhattan Beach will appear in court later this month on charges connected to eight robberies in the region.

Joshua Bates, 32, of Montebello, was arrested at his home Dec. 7 by an L.A. County Sheriff’s Department's special weapons team.

He allegedly robbed the candy store Dec. 3 while on parole and is charged with a string of other such crimes that began in early November.

After an investigation by the Whittier Police Department, Bates was charged with eight counts of robbery and five counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He is being held in lieu of $350,000 at the Men’s Central Jail and is expected to appear in court Jan. 20.
