Jack LaLanne: Noon tribute at his Hollywood star
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place flowers at noon at Jack LaLanne's Hollywood Walk of Fame star, at 7000 Hollywood Blvd. near the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
America's original fitness guru died Sunday at his home in Morro Bay. He was 96.
LaLanne is credited with sparking the nation's interest in physical fitness and nutrition, opening his first health center in Oakland in 1936. In the 1950s, he began a televised morning exercise show, encouraging housewives and their baby-boomer children through stretches, stomach crunches and jumping jacks.
LaLanne died of pneumonia-related respiratory failure, his agent said.
