Sheriff's deputy kills suspect in South Los Angeles

January 8, 2011 |  3:21 pm

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy fatally shot a suspect in South Los Angeles early Saturday, authorities said.

The shooting occurred in the 8000 block of Wadsworth Avenue and is under investigation, the Sheriff's Department said in a statement. The suspect, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured.

Because the shooting involved a law enforcement officer, it will be investigated by three separate units -- the sheriff's homicide and internal affairs bureaus as well as the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
