January 24, 2011 |  4:21 pm

Four boys who were on a sidewalk near a Placentia school were hit by a vehicle Monday after a van and a car collided at an adjacent intersection, officials said.

The accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. at Valencia and Golden avenues when a Toyota Prius collided with a Toyota Sienna van as one of the vehicles was making a left-hand turn. Three of the victims were taken to hospitals, according to Capt. Greg McKeown of the Orange County Fire Authority.

Two 12-year-old boys appeared to have suffered the most serious injuries, including one who was pinned under the car. A 7-year-old was also hospitalized. A fourth child was released to his parents.

Police were investigating the accident. It was unclear whether any arrests had been made.
