December 26, 2010 |  2:00 pm

A woman in her 30s was fatally shot as she got out of her car in South Los Angeles on Christmas night, authorities said.

The woman was exiting her car in the intersection of 85th Street and Western Avenue at 10:30 p.m. when two men in a dark-blue vehicle approached and fired nine shots at her, striking her in the head, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Bruce Borinhanh said.

The woman's name was withheld pending notification of her next of kin, according to Los Angeles County Coroner's Investigator Dana Bee.

Police are treating the shooting as gang-related. Anyone with information on this homicide is asked to call LAPD detectives at (213) 485-4175.

Since January 2007, at least 137 homicides were reported within two miles of the shooting scene, according to a database compiled by the Los Angeles Times' Homicide Report.
