The UC Irvine Police Department is searching for an undergraduate wanted on suspicion of attempting to kill his wife during a dispute, authorities said.

Gregory Scott Turner, 33, is wanted for attempted murder by strangulation, according to a police statement. The assault was reported about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, said UCI spokesman Tom Vasich.

Turner is alleged to have "strangled and beat his wife into unconsciousness, then fled," Vasich said. "Police are working with county authorities to track him down."

Vasich said Turner, who is studying criminology and law, and his wife have two children, ages 5 and 7.

Police said Turner fled his home at 2522 Verano Place in a blue 2006 Chevrolet pickup with California license plate 8P53538.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts or of the incident should call UCI police at (949) 824-5223
