Two women and a man were killed Saturday night in the city of Vernon when a man driving a pickup struck their car, officials said Sunday.

A 6-year-old boy, identified as the son of one of the women killed, survived.

Vernon police said four people in a Honda were traveling north on Alameda Street when they were struck by a Dodge pickup at East Vernon Avenue.

The driver of the Dodge, who was alone, fled the scene but was apprehended a short while later.

Police declined to identify the driver of the Dodge Sunday morning but said he is expected to be charged with two felonies -– hit-and-run and driving while intoxicated.

The identities of those killed were not released.
