Police shoot man in Long Beach

December 19, 2010 |  2:02 pm

A man was shot and killed by Long Beach police on Sunday, a week after another Long Beach man was killed in an officer-involved shooting.

The latest shooting occurred at about 5:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Pine Avenue, said Long Beach Police Sgt. Dina Zapalski. The man died at the scene, and police did not release his name or other information about the incident.

On Dec. 12, Douglas Zerby, 35, was fatally shot by Long Beach police while holding a water nozzle. He had been sitting on the stoop of a friend’s home when neighbors, thinking he was holding a gun, called 911.

Family members say Zerby may have been intoxicated and have accused police of misconduct.
