Girl in critical condition after car hits a tree in Industry

December 19, 2010 |  7:40 pm

A 6-year-old was in “extremely critical condition” after a car she was riding in crashed into a tree in Industry early Sunday, sheriff’s officials said.

The single-car crash happened at around 4 a.m. as James De La Cruz, 32, drove the little girl, her mother and 5-month-old sister north on Hacienda Boulevard, just north of Stafford Street. It is not clear how De La Cruz is related to the passengers, officials said.

It is also not clear what caused the incident.

“There were no signs of intoxication,” said Sgt. Ernie Barbosa. “It looks like the car just drifted into the center divider.”

Preliminary reports showed weather did not play a role in the crash, “but that could change in coming days,” he said.

De La Cruz, the 6-year-old’s mother and sister suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Barbosa said.
