Babysitter arrested in 2006 murder of 2-year-old

December 6, 2010 |  9:40 am

A 26-year-old woman suspected of killing a 2-year-old boy she used to babysit has been arrested four years after the child's death in Long Beach, authorities said Monday.

Jennifer Garcia of Long Beach was arrested Friday at her workplace in Stanton by Long Beach police detectives, said Lisa Massacani, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.

Garcia was the boy's babysitter and the girlfriend of his father, Massacani said.

Paramedics responded to a call in November 2006 that the child had fallen down a flight of stairs while under Garcia’s care; he later died from injuries at a hospital, Massacani said.

An extensive investigation overseen by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office led to her arrest, Massacani said.

Garcia was being held on $1-million bail and was expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
