Demolition of Skirball Center Drive overpass to finish two days early

October 14, 2010 |  3:32 pm

Tearing down the Skirball Center Drive bridge in the Sepulveda Pass section of the San Diego Freeway is expected to be completed two days ahead of schedule, reducing the number of closures that would inconvenience motorists.

Officials for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority say the last of the closures should be tonight because the contractor has proceeded faster than expected with demolishing the bridge’s north side. The MTA had planned highway and ramp closures for five days through Saturday.

Tonight, all northbound lanes on the 405 Freeway will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. from Getty Center Drive to Ventura Boulevard while the Skirball bridge will be shut down from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. All Skirball Center Drive ramps on the 405 Freeway will be closed except for the on-ramp on the northbound side.

Once again, Sepulveda Boulevard, which parallels the 405 Freeway, will be used as the primary detour. More detailed information is available online at www.metro.net/405 or by calling the project hotline at (213) 922-3665.
