September 29, 2010 |  8:40 pm

Marine Lance Cpl. Ralph J. Fabbri, a combat cameraman, has been killed during combat operations in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Wednesday.

Fabbri, 20, of Gallitzin, Pa., was killed Tuesday in Helmand province, where Marines are fighting to wrest control from the Taliban.  He was assigned to the Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Fabbri was killed by small-arms fire while on a foot patrol, the Marine Corps said. He was on his first combat deployment and due to return to Camp Pendleton within weeks. He died a day short of his 21st birthday.

Fabbri enlisted in 2008 after graduating from high school, where he was an honors art student.
