Man dies in accident at Long Beach rail facility

September 18, 2010 |  3:17 pm

A man died Saturday after being crushed by equipment at a Long Beach rail facility, authorities said.

A Los Angeles County coroner's investigator was sent to the 2400 block of East Sepulveda Boulevard after the death was reported shortly before 11 a.m., said Lt. Brian Elias of the coroner's office.

The man who was crushed was standing beneath a crane and conducting repair work when the accident occurred, according to a worker at the rail facility, who asked not to be identified for fear of reprisal.

The victim died instantly, the source said, adding that another worker also was pinned beneath the crane and suffered injuries.
