Lindsay Lohan could face 30 days in jail if she fails drug test [Updated]
Lindsay Lohan could be sent back to jail for up to a month if she is found to have failed a drug test.
Sources said Friday that law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into whether she took drugs. No new court hearing has been set, but if it turns out she failed the test, she would face a judge once again.
[Updated at 11:15 p.m.: Late Thursday, Lohan herself told her fans on Twitter that she had indeed failed the drug test.
"Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result."
She added a few minutes later: "This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I'm prepared to face the consequences."]
Lohan spent part of the summer in an L.A. County jail in Lynwood after repeatedly violating the terms of her probation on a drunk-driving charge. She was released from a rehab center a few weeks ago.
Under the terms of her sentence, if she misses a test or gets a positive result, she would face 30 days in jail.
The sources, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because the case is ongoing, said no official determination has been made that she did take illicit drugs. One source told The Times that the judge and prosecutor in the case have received "unofficial" word of the investigation.
Lohan continues to undergo intense therapy and counseling since her release from a UCLA rehab facility. She is on supervised probation in connection with her 2007 conviction for driving under the influence. She must take random drug tests twice a week.
