Man killed in drive-by shooting in Cudahy [Updated]

A man was fatally shot in Cudahy on Saturday night, officials said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Patata Street, said Deputy Lillian Peck of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The victim, a Latino man in his 20s, was shot by assailants in a four-door compact car, according to the department.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Anyone with information on the crime is encouraged to call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.

[Update at 1:50 p.m.: Since January 2007, at least 12 people have been killed within a mile of the fatal shooting Saturday, according to data collected for The Times' interactive Homicide Report.

The most recent homicide took place Dec. 13, about a block away. In that incident, Roshdi Abuawad, 27, was dragged to his death under a car. His body was found at Atlantic and Salt avenues in Cudahy.]
