Illegal immigrants held hostage, rescued from Baldwin Park home

August 19, 2010 | 10:25 pm
Baldwin Park police rescued 35 suspected illegal immigrants Thursday night who were being held hostage in a home in the San Gabriel Valley city, authorities said.

Police received a cellphone call shortly before 7 p.m. from a man who said "he was being held against his will," said Lt. David Reynoso of the Baldwin Park Police Department.

When officers arrived at the home in the 400 block of La Rica Avenue, people were fleeing the residence. The 35 immigrants included a 12-year-old boy and were being held until family members paid a ransom, according to Reynoso.

Two suspects were detained and being questioned by investigators at the home. The immigrants were from Mexico and Central America.
