Click here for a Times database of Long Beach homicides. 57-year-old Long Beach woman shot and killed a man who was running on the roof of her home, police said Tuesday.

Officers found the 25-year-old man lying in the woman's driveway with a a gunshot wound to the torso, the Long Beach Police Department said. The woman's husband had called police to report that his wife had just shot someone in their yard in the 3200 block of East 67th Street.

The victim, identified only as a Long Beach resident, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to police.

After hearing footsteps on her roof, the woman grabbed a gun and went outside, where she confronted the intruder in the driveway after he had jumped to the ground, police said.

An initial investigation has determined that the victim and another man may have committed an assault and were trying to flee the area, police said. Detectives will continue to probe the case to determine whether the shooting was justifiable.

At least 156 homicides have been reported in Long Beach since January 2007, according to a database compiled by The Times' Homicide Report.
