Shaken by severe turbulence, LAX-bound plane diverts to Denver; two dozen injured

July 21, 2010 |  8:00 am

A United Airlines jetliner bound for Los Angeles International Airport was diverted to Denver International Airport Tuesday night after heavy turbulence resulted in at least two dozen injuries.

United Flight 967 experienced the turbulence as it flew through a storm in Kansas, according to United Airlines spokesman Mike Trevino. The plane landed in Denver at 8 p.m.

Twenty-one passengers and four flight attendants sought medical treatment in Denver, Tevino said. It is believed that all but one of those injured have been released. Many are due to fly back to Los Angeles on Wednesday, Trevino said.

Flight 967, which originated at Dulles International Airport, continued on to Los Angeles on Tuesday night with a new flight crew and landed safely at LAX.
