California much more jovial than East Coast, study finds

July 23, 2010 | 11:11 am

Mashable posted a report from Harvard and Northeastern University that used Twitter to gauge the mood of Americans over time (video above). Curbed L.A. points out that Californians are far happier than those on the other coast:

California is WAY more jovial than the East Coast, especially New York. Warm weather may have something to do with it, as Florida seems quite happy too. The country though seems to find pleasure in similar times during the day, notably in the morning (really?) and at the end of the day, usually with a glass of wine, we suppose.

Other goings-on around Web L.A.:

Renegade Craft Fair: LAist reports that the Renegade Craft Fair is coming up this weekend:

On Saturday and Sunday this free event features the more than 250 independents artists, designers, and DIY enthusiasts. The fair began in Chicago eight years ago and has since spread to other cities, including Los Angeles in 2009.

Los Feliz skunks: Curbed L.A. has a hilarious post about a group of skunks that hangs out around a particular Los Feliz block:

So when, coming home late one night, we stumbled upon a veritable stench of skunks -- of course that would be the collective noun for them, ha ha good one, lexicographers -- having a hoe-down in the front yard of a house about a block away from our house, our wondering eyes were as transfixed as those of the kitty staring out the window.
