Two boys killed after being run over by big rig in Wilmington [Updated]

Two boys, ages 4 and 15, died Sunday after being run over by a big rig in Wilmington, authorities said.

The victims were on the back of a moving tractor-trailer near Wilmington Avenue and Lomita Boulevard about 11:30 a.m. when they fell off and were run over, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jerome Calhoun said.

The 15-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said. The 4-year-old was taken to Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance where he later died.

[Updated at 3:36 p.m.: The coroner's office identified the victims as Alexander Flores, 4, and Joel Flores, 15. The two are brothers and residents of Los Angeles]

[Updated at 4:22 p.m.: The driver of the big rig was the father of the two boys, said Officer Cleon Joseph of the Los Angeles Police Department. He declined to identify the father.]
