June 22, 2010 |  7:33 pm

A California Highway Patrol officer critically injured two weeks ago in a vehicle accident on the 405 Freeway died Tuesday evening, officials said.

Motorcycle Officer Phillip Ortiz, 52, died at 5:50 p.m., said Sgt. Mark Garrett of the California Highway Patrol.

Several media organizations reported earlier Tuesday afternoon that Ortiz had passed away -- before he had been pronounced dead.

Ortiz had pulled over a Honda SUV at 8:35 a.m. June 9 on the 405 Freeway near the 10 Freeway on the Westside when an Infiniti sedan drove along the shoulder and hit the officer and the SUV. The crash sent four people to the hospital, officials said.

The Infiniti driver was interviewed by authorities but has not been arrested, the CHP said.
