Slain Canoga Park mother is identified by police

May 15, 2010 | 11:30 am
Los Angeles police have identified the Canoga Park woman who was stabbed to death with her young daughter Friday afternoon as 21-year-old Martha Carmona.

Police said Saturday that Carmona, who was first believed to be in her 30s, was 21, and her daughter, who was not identified by name, was 6 years old, and not 5 as previously stated.

The bodies of the mother and child were discovered at a house in the 6900 block of Remmet Avenue around 1:15 p.m., when city firefighters responded to a report of a stabbing. The pair were pronounced dead at the scene.

LAPD Officer Gregory Baek said the victims had knife wounds.

Detectives interviewed Carmona's husband in connection with the killings. Following that interview, police said the case remained wide open. No suspect or motive has been determined so far, police said.
