Juror Villaraigosa is waiting for his name to be called

May 10, 2010 | 11:35 am
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa had to clear his calendar Monday morning for a higher calling: He got pegged with jury duty.

Villaraigosa spent Monday morning sitting inside the Los Angeles Superior Court waiting for his name to be called. He had been summoned into traffic court downtown, according to the mayor’s spokeswoman, Sarah Hamilton.

No word yet on whether he’s been picked for a jury.

Villaraigosa, however, was forced to move up a news conference on the city’s “gun buyback" program. The event initially was scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Los Angeles Police Department Administration Building across the street from City Hall, but was switched to 12:30 p.m. – to better coordinate with the time jurors are excused for lunch.

This is the second time the mayor has been called for jury duty. He was also summoned in September 2005.
