Hipside L.A.? Readers asked to 'rename' Eastside neighborhoods
And because it's just too cumbersome to get all those neighborhood names out every time you want to say something condescending about hipsters, we're giving the area a new collective handle too, with the help of the Curbed army.
For the neighborhoods' locations and boundaries, check out the Times' Mapping L.A. Neighborhoods project.
Here's some other goings-on around Web L.A.:
Boy Scouts snubbed: Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California, offered his take on the Huffington Post about why a California Assembly committee didn't pass a resolution to honor the Boy Scouts on its 100th anniversary:
The reason: the Boy Scouts' perpetual discrimination against participants and troop leaders who aren't heterosexual. Equality California testified at the hearing and submitted a letter in opposition to this resolution.
Bike corral in Highland Park: LAist reported on the first bicycle corral -- a sort of parking lot for bicycles --the city is expected to install:
A pilot project funded by the business community and local neighborhood council, the corral will hold up to 20 bicycles in front of Cafe de Leche on York Boulevard at Avenue 50.
Water park resort in Orange County?: A Garden Grove bar could be demolished to make room for a water park hotel. The Orange County Register reported that the city may also get rid of an RV park to make room for the venture:
Economic Development Director Chet Yoshizaki said the property at 12581 Harbor Blvd. is the last piece of the puzzle in terms of assembling land for developer McWhinney Real Estate Services of Colorado, which is building the water park resort.
