Body of presumed suicide victim found under Pasadena's Colorado Street Bridge

April 18, 2010 |  2:56 pm

The body of a 25-year-old man believed to have committed suicide was found Saturday under the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena, authorities said.

A hiker discovered the body beneath the historic thoroughfare about 6:20 p.m., Pasadena Police Lt. Chris Russ said. Authorities believe the victim jumped from the middle of the bridge 24 to 48 hours before he was found.

“It’s not a pleasant thing to deal with for everyone involved,” Russ said.

Since the 150-foot-high bridge was built in 1913 over the Arroyo Seco, more than 100 people have jumped into the canyon below, causing the span to sometimes be locally referred to as “Suicide Bridge.”

In 1992, it underwent a $27-million renovation that included the installation of a spiked suicide prevention fence.
