Twenty officers and sailors from the Robert E. Bush Naval Hospital at the Marine Base at Twentynine Palms have departed for Haiti, the latest medical personnel from West Coast Navy hospitals to join the humanitarian effort, officials said.

The 20 will be assigned either to a ship or a land-based unit. The naval hospital ship Comfort, the amphibious assault ship Bataan, the carrier Carl Vinson and several smaller ships are part of the effort.

Eighty-seven personnel from the Naval Medical Center San Diego, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Naval Hospital Bremerton (Wash.), and Naval Hospital Lemoore (Calif.) have also deployed to assist.
